Considered to be the most traditional window on the market, a double hung window has two sashes that can move up and down within a window frame. Double hung windows use balances or counterweights to support the sashes. Curious about the difference between a double hung and a single hung?
- Unlike a single hung window, a double hung has two movable sashes rather than just one (the lower).
- Because of the dual operating sashes on a double hung, there are more ventilation options than that of a single hung, which is limited to the ventilation from the lower pane and the bottom frame.
- A double hung is significantly easier to clean because both sashes can tilt, ideal for windows on the upper floor. The top pane to a single hung is difficult to clean when only the bottom pane operates.
